By opening a few bank accounts in your name can help your credit score. Add a few bucks here and there when you get some money in your pocket. By showing activity in all of your bank accounts this can help improve your credit score.

I am also 24 and have a credit card limit of $8,500 but have an outstanding balance of about $2,000 (college is expensive). My credit level also rose without me asking but these tips do seem to make sense. I haven't switched my credit cards around yet, that may be part of my limit increase.

I've been thinking that I should perhaps look into a bad-credit credit card. My credit is terrible, low 500's likely fico. But do I really need a credit card? Is rebuilding my credit score that important at the moment?

Rewarding points are only beneficial thing in handling credit cards which can give you some profit. I use my credit cards extensively just for rewarding points.

Very true about reward cards - If you don't plan on paying them off in full every month, there's almost no point because any interest would wipe out the rewards you earn.

Good post. Indeed applying for credit cards online seems to be the way everyone does it now. Remember when people use to have to apply over the phone?! Today that seems so ancient of a method haha.

I guess having the extra credit limit is good if you have an ememrgency come up, but people need to be careful that they are truly saving it for a must need situation. I see way too many people get over their heads.

These are great tips in your post, and one I'd forgotten about was the one to carry a small balance for a short period of time every once in awhile.

There's so much advice out there on the internet, much of it not quite correct. Yours is right on the mark. Thank you!
